Educational Tones of Voice

Amanda has an extensive experience with eLearning and Training voiceovers. She's been producing courses, tutorials, documentation and manuals, guides and many other educational content formats in the most effective tones of voice, always focused on UsX (user sound experience) and retention/learning levels.

Her most requested tones are young, conversational, with good energy and believable. This happy, genuine, 20-25 yo persona was used by Uber and Kenhub, for example. This voice has a medium pitch, full of bass and other frequencies, so it doesn't sound aggressive or hollow. It's a mood that doesn't pass unnoticed and makes the audience of 20-45 lean on. That gets people involved and learning.

The second more requested role is a mature, confident, articulated and experienced 35-45 yo woman talking about what she's a specialist in. This woman speaks from a knowledgeable position, yet she has some naturality in her voice that invites people of all ages to listen to her. Great to tell stories, teach specificities and technicities of an area of knowledge or bring human resources together.

Must-haves for eLearning

What's most expected from a voice actress for an eLearning recording is:

• consistency throughout minutes or even hours of recording

• ability to mimic an audio reference in other languages;

• and sometimes acting skills to perform multiple characters within a course or throughout different modules and dialogues.

Conveniences for the client

Besides having those characteristics, Amanda's workflow also includes:

• splitting and naming audio files accordingly to the most detailed and exigent requirements;

• records on-site or in another preferred studio in Brazil;

• delivering clean, clear, fully edited audio files, ready to be used by the client, embedded in the video or inserted into Articulate Storyline software, for example.

If you need a full recording without split audio files, feel free to ask. It's also possible to deliver the audio file with blips, long pauses or even metadata marks that help the audio editor browse through the timeline.

E-learning producers usually like to receive the fully edited audio file(s) but it is also common when the in-house production wants to have more freedom or use their own staff to perform post-production activities.

Frequent Questions

Is your studio good for e-learning?

Actually, it's more than appropriate. It's a luxury for eLearning projects. I record in a treated, isolated vocal booth on a Neumann TLM 103 condenser microphone and a Focusrite Scarlet interface. I can use ProTools or Adobe Audition CC.

I also can use 3 screens at the same time. My audio has been approved and requested by multiple engineers and studios, including through remote-directed sessions. If needed, we can use Source Connect Standard or other remote recording software of your preference.

Do you have male voices to e-learning?

Yes, my studio offer one male voice (young adult, adult, mid-age, characters and original voice) as well as children's voices (boys, 4 to 10 years old, with the ability to perform characters and original voices).

I also cast other voice actors and actresses for multiple roles in training courses, for example.

My budget for this e-learning project is small. Could we still work together?

It's possible, because the price is only one of a dozen things that must be aligned in order before I get involved in a project. Requirements, size of the project, quality of audience, level of difficulty, quality of communication, and project's organization - those are some of the characteristics that impact the price as well as everyone's well-being throughout the project.

So even if you have a limited or pre-fixed budget, know that this is not what's most important. Keep in mind that it may be possible to readjust the quote or the workflow according to your budget - if I can, I'll do it, with the highest quality, as always.

I know the industry standard rates but I'm not tied or limited to them. Sometimes they are too high, sometimes they are too low. For this, I stay flexible enough to accommodate reasonable budgets, especially for large projects.

Through a clear and natural voice and by employing specific oral techniques, I transform good training into effective training. Certain tones of voice and levels of articulation work better for some educational recordings and don't work at all for other scripts and learners.

For this, I pay attention to the briefing and the audio reference sent by the client to apply my framework accurately and provide high retention, interaction and interest rates throughout the video or audio training.
